Fourth Annual Contest for Inflammatory Language

Inflammatory Language is a series of primers on inflammation science. Care to contribute? There is a free copy of On Immunity: an Inoculation by Eula Biss for the winning submission.

The 2015 winner was Melanie Stegman, Ph.D., Creative Director of Immune Defense and Owner of Molecular Jig Games. Her Immune Defense is a novel molecular game highlighted in a wonderful guest post.

There were no acceptable submissions for 2014.

The 2013 winner was Dr. Monica Lalanda of Medicoacuadros. Her lively illustrations were included in Inflammatory Language: The Rain in Spain.... She received a signed copy of The Best Science Writing Online 2012.

This contest is a great opportunity for students, but anyone can contribute.

So, for 2016, carefully select 300-500 words (or less) and/or an illustration that conveys inflammation. It can be humorous, political, or encompass pop culture or current events, but must be original and professional. It also needs to be appropriate for viewing/reading by most people.

The overall goal is to accurately inform readers.

Submissions can be sent to thefebrilemuse[at]gmail[dot]com. Please include "Inflammatory Language 2016 contest" in subject line, your professional byline, and your website URL, if you have one. Thank you in advance, and good luck! I look forward to reading your submissions.

It may look as if I've been on vacation from writing this blog. I have...am currently working on a larger work-in-progress...and developing my hospital's antimicrobial stewardship program and teaching students. I will be back, and will certainly help in promoting this year's winner.

All the best, CM Doran.

**Addendum: there were no qualified submissions this year**

Deadline:  by end of Tuesday, April 5, 2016
